This post is gonna dedicate to the manager of “SHAHDE ASAYESH” blog, Mr. Amini.

Also, a brief & laconic summary of his blog.

Mr. Amini is a translation buff. His blog is designed for translators especially students at intermediate & advanced level. It is aimed at learning how to translate and be professional translator. He off & on writes sentences of all sorts of topic like law, poem, economic & yada, yada, yada. As he says, his web page consists of three utmost sections:

1-- Learn how to build sentence & to comprehend English texts.

 I’m gonna spell out that texts are related to previous posts. This’s the bottom line part that he calls sth like infrastructure of his web. He invites TOEFL, IELTS & all English learners to get a glimpse & make a use of his blog even they’re not intrested in translation. There you can’t find a section scrutinizing words, a boring part.

2- Translation labs

He invites all enthusiastic trasnlators & learner to take part in these labs. You’d better know that practice makes perfect.

Here I was wondering if you might participate in traslations of this invaluable web for the sake of yourself.

معنای فرهنگ هزاره:

1-مربوط به دادگاه، دیوانی، محکمه ای، مربوط به وکلای دعاوی

معناهای ذکر نشده در هزاره:

1-جدلی ، بحثی

از موقیعت های کاربردی:

1-از نو خلق کردن، باز آفریدن

2- به کلی عوض کردن، به کلی دگرگون کردن:

کسی که وظیفه اش است که مردم را از محصولات جدید، فیلم جدید، کتاب جدید آگاه کند

قبل از بیرون آمدن فیلم جدید، روزنامه نگارانش همه ی آنرا ساختند

These words sound more familiar for boys rather than girls! BTW, I tried to write below sentences to not return you home empty-handed. By & after this post i think I do  a catharsis.

1-- My aunt obtained her Major insignia on 25^th October.

2-- When his brigade stands tightly before Major John Frank, oftentimes abashed he feels and sometimes conceited.

3-- One 12-year-old boy arrived, claiming to be a lieutenant colonel.

4-- Why would the sergeant major want to talk to you?

5-- Carter, a staff sergeant who worked in a Los Angeles tire facility after the war, passed away in 1963.

6-- The senior military advisor to the film was Colonel Joseph, brigade commander at the actual battle.

نکته ای میتونم اینجا اضافه میکنم این هستش که میتونی از اینترنت هم استفاده کنی و کسانی را که اشعار حافظ و سعدی و مولوی و ... را ترجمه کرده اند ازتجربیات آنها هم استفاده کنی(تو دبیرستان خونده بودیم که گوته اشعار حافظ رو خیلی عالی ترجمه کرده بود) . من خودم شم شعری ندارم ولی یه نظریه ای بود که میگفت: مترجم اشعار باید یا شاعر باشد یا شم شعری داشته باشد.

Pioneers of Translation Study

Hello. How are you feeling today? I hope you were fine. In this post I’m gonna take you around the world of translation studies in a blink. This may be familiar or unfamiliar for you. I had never heard about this before studying for M.A. surely I’m gonna consider the academic and organized theories in summary after 17^th century. I’ve got to mention that if you’re interested, you can refer to the related books!!!

Let’s commence it with James Holmes who introduced the translation study as a discipline. So, the translation study owes one to him. In summary he divided Translation Study into two branches namely “Pure & Applied”. The former subdivides into Theoretical & Descriptive. The latter can be said is practical today and subdivides into translator training, translation aids & translation criticism. He devoted himself to the pure and in details. Wow, if I wanna continue in this way, i should write plenty of posts for this tremendous area, translation Study. Let’s pass over this.

In 17^th century, theoreticians proposed “word-for-Word or Literal” and “Sense-for-Sense or Free” translations which most of them especially Cicero, Martin Luther, St. Jerome the most famous of all translators, preferred the second kind of translation.

So, Eugene Nida who developed and ordered the discipline because he was the founder of American Bible Institute embroiling with practical translation. He proposed the kinds of equivalence for Translation Study. Formal & Dynamic or Functional Equivalences. In brief and laconic definition, the former is SL-oriented and focuses attention on the message in both form and content. But the utmost and latter equivalence is reader-oriented seeking ‘the closest natural equivalent to the SL message.

So the old man of translation Peter Newmark who devoted himself to English language. He suggests Semantic & Communicative translation. He believes that every text is translatable in these two ambits. You can imagine the equal with Nida’s formal and dynamic equivalence respectively not only comprehensive but also complete. He also categorizes text into three parts, informative, expressive & vocative ones. He had a good nose for every part of translation fastidiously.

Other theoreticians like Reiss, Venuti, Steiner, Koller, J. House, Halliday, Vinay, Darbelnet, Catford, Seleskovitch the introducer of Interpretation Study, Gutt, R. Bell, Holz-Manttari, Vermeer, Baker, Hatim, Even-Zohar, Toury, Lefevere and yada-yada-yada. It is interesting to know that above-mentioned and other theoreticians have invaluable influence in translation ambit. You can imagine number of them more that 500.

So enough is enough. My primary goal of this post was kinda of review for myself and familiarizing the buff learners with Names and their impeccable works.

Etymology:

Date: 1500-1600

Language: Latin

Origin: past participle of immolare, from mola ‘crushed grain’; because people about to be ceremonially killed had crushed grain scattered over them

 

Ex: A suicide squad was formed of women ready to immolate themselves if the pageant went ahead.
